Close-up of natural grass sea sponges, each a different shape and shade

One of a kind

No two are the same

Every sponge grew in the sea off Long Island, so each one has its own shape, colour and texture. Whichever one you get, there isn't another quite like it.

Our story

A family business, rooted on Long Island

Sea Sponge Co. is run by Jo, Millie and George. Our sponges are hand-harvested from the waters around Long Island in the Bahamas and hung out to dry in the island sun. Every one is then cleaned, measured and checked by hand before it's packed and sent to you. From the Bahamas to your bathroom.

Sponge care

Look after it, and it lasts 6–12 months

  1. 01

    Before first use

Soak in warm water and squeeze a few times to release any sand.

  2. 02

    After every use

Rinse out the soap, press out the water (never wring it) and let it dry somewhere airy, out of the shower.

  3. 03

    Every week or two

Refresh it with a 15-minute soak in diluted white vinegar or baking soda, then rinse.

  4. 04

    Every 6–12 months

When it starts to wear or lose its shape, it's time for a new one.
